"L"oser

It looks like an "L". Or maybe it is bent into the shape of a sock. Could be an upsidedown backward candy cane slightly bent out of shape. No matter what, I found it on the floor of someones classroom on our campus. This is meaningful tonight for two reasons...the main one being that I'm out of, and not thinking about, classrooms for the next two weeks!!! More importantly, in getting into the head of whichever student carried it into the classroom I am concerned about his/her motive. It was ditched in plain sight between the door and student desks. Clearly someone thought better of keeping the object, or was concerned about getting caught with it in their possession. Now that I think about it, maybe its intended use was as a shank...and some deep dark evil was thwarted when it was haphazardly discarded. Or, it was just a piece of the chain link fence and "hitch-hiked" its way into the room attached to someones tennis shoe.

the chain in the rain

Yup, it's a chain...in the parking lot...in the rain...just outside of the Christmas tree tent at Home Depot. I'm telling you, these metal objects just throw themselves out in front of me! It's like I'm a 'metal magnet' (yes, the pun was intended). But, there we were on the very first day of Hanukkah, picking out our Christmas tree (or Hanukkah bush) in the gloomy drizzle, and while it was being tied onto the roof of the jeep, something sparkly caught my eye on the ground...and the rest we say... is history Virginia... :}

Lights

This being the second night of Hanukkah, I thought it fitting to include my oldest and dearest menorah. I think it is a brass one with quite a wonderful greenish patina. Here it is sitting between two silver menorahs that are barely visible, but brilliant none the less. If I remember correctly, I asked for and received this menorah as a Christmas gift one year. Tonight was a traditional dinner (Weight Watchers style) matzo ball soup, latkes, and even gelt (foil wrapped chocolate coins). Six more nights to go...

mangled love

Believe it or not, this was once a ring...although it doesn't look like it was a valuable one by any means. However, it sure has been mangled by passing traffic. Possibly the love that it once represented was also mangled and that was how it ended up by the side of the road. We've all seen those movie scenes where the crazy lady passenger throws her ring out of the car window, usually following some dramatic breakup. This one is missing the center stone...maybe it was discarded by a clever woman who knew that the value was in the 'big rock' and she carefully and sneakily removed it prior to the drama of the ring toss out the window...you never know? could happen...

a Threesome

Finding one fork in the road seemed unusual and highly unlikely. However, three different forks on different occasions and in different , but not drastically far apart, locations is quite the coincidence. And their deformities are quite different too. One has tynes squished together as if it had crossed fingers, while another seems to have been crumpled by a rather strong handed giant. And still another is gently bent in half. The trio could probably make wonderful music, as surely their poetic shapes woul create varying sounds...possibly those of harp strings being plucked and strummed. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

holding it all together

This pin can truly hold it all together and then some. At a length of 5 inches, it is quite an impressive find. I just wish that I had been the one to find it. My neighbor was the one who found it on one of her walks around the same spots that I travel. She was very excited to bring it to me to add to my basket of metal objects. And as you can see from the photo, it has a wonderful rust quality to it.

time

I'm back...Had to take some time to rest and sleep. Don't know why, but excessive tiredness has settled in. Could it still be the effects of the turkey? Out of the routine of exercising? Not walking enough? Probably all but the turkey idea...Got to get things back into perspective or the ticking clock could be overwhelming. Maybe it's just that time of year? Or, I could be a bear getting ready to hibernate!?! In any case, this is a photo of one of the clocks onboard the cruise ship from last April en route to the Hawaiian islands. Ahhh the islands...maybe the Maine islands would be welcoming this time of year? Sitting in a warm living room near a fireplace looking out on a blustery ocean...Ahhh
